The Parish Pub Re-brand Research

For my first brief of the year, I decided that I wanted to re-brand my local alternative pub, The Parish.

Current Logo
The current identity for the venue is very generic for an alternative venue, with the name of the pub being used in Black Letter font and I feel like this is unimaginative and generic. It could be so much better and, if anything, this is quite unrepresentative of the customers (which is a range of people) and the music played as it is alternative but nothing that is black metal.

To prove this point, I was given a book to borrow called "Band ID" by Bodhi Oser which holds a large amount of band logos for reference.

As you can see from the plethora of band logos, the market is saturated with Black Letter fonts, with it ranging from small, subtle nuances to thick, illegible swathes of black letter. I think it would be ideal to step away from this generic identity as this would instantly give a new and fresh approach to a saturated ideal.

I wanted to find aspects and areas of the pub that I would be able to work with and be able to produce work for therefore, for my primary research, I decided to pay a visit to The Parish, sampling the food and getting the vibe of the place.

Parish Pub Primary Research Findings
As you can see, the first thing you notice about the pub is the lack of cohesion as it has no solid identity, with the outdoor sign and the menu having 2 different logos. The only things that are the same is the menu and the loyalty card which have generic skulls on them. From this trip, it made me think of what I could produce for the pub and what I could propose that I hadn't considered beforehand from this research, such as a straw holder, sauce bottles and a sauce bottle holder, branding on ale casks and a table order number system.
